About

Certified public aquarium nerd

Hi, I'm Jonathan! I have experience from a handful of public aquariums, working primarily with tropical and temperate fishes and invertebrates. I love to talk about the interdisciplinary work I do taking care of animals and their life support systems, and enjoy that I'm supporting zoological institutions that play a role in informal science education.

About this website

This website was developed from my interest in informing others about the complexity of public aquariums and aquatic animal care—what I do (What's an aquarist?). I maintain this website outside of my job, and therefore do not speak for the organization I work for through information or opinions found here.

You may find links on here to outside websites that demonstrate something technical exists. Some concepts are linked to the English Wikipedia to provide an easy route to find more background information on technical terms—I'm not suggesting every word of the article is properly sourced.

Me in 2013 at my first aquarium internship, during an enrichment session with Mr. Crackers, a nine-banded armadillo!
